This painting depicts a Burmese lady sitting, surrounded by many faces of lost identities, which is the very first painting of mine where I combined two painting series. They are the portraiture series that showcases powerful women who know the value of their existence and the faceless, suffocating series covered with  Ka-noque(Burmese traditional floral  patterns) illustrates the limitations of Burmese culture. 

In fact, the domination of warm colors: orange, magenta and crimson red gives her energy and strength ; a simple sitting posture transcends her as a remarkable character. In addition, the green leaves on her hair contrasts the cool and warm colors by making each other’s tone brighter. Also, the Tha-Pyae leaves are used to represent the victory in Myanmar culture.  Moreover I used a lot of Gold color to express the delicate contradiction of tradition, culture and religion. At the same time, Gold is the color of Myanmar and holds an importance in jewellery and accessories  in history. Despite this, all the pure vivid color brush strokes are shifting  the viewer’s  eyes to one face of what she is holding in her hand. 

“Looking back while you are walking forward”

A sensational sentence from Burmese old poem will make you think about the journey of her life and experiences. 

Is she looking back because she wants to experience again what she left behind or is she looking back to compare her bright future with the past that she has passed?

Or is it  just a simple flash back of what she has cultivated.
