Please join us on April 5 for a signing of Girl Power in Myanmar, a newly released children’s book celebrating the lives of 14 women rocking their communities.
Girl Power in Myanmar is a bilingual children’s book celebrating the lives of 14 women. In many ways, they are nothing alike. They were born all over Myanmar. They believed different things, and they followed different passions. Some are well known. Others like the story of the Women’s Army of Burma or the story of Zarchi Win, a textile factory worker who with no prior organising experience led one of the largest labor strikes in Myanmar, are rarely told. What unites these women is that they were not afraid to be bold, and use whatever they had to make change.
Chuu Wai Nyein first received attention for her solo exhibition, Synonym of Self, in 2017 in Yangon. Chuu Wai Nyein illustrated three of the stories in this book.
